Vietnam’s seafood exports increase 13% in January

Vietnam’s seafood export revenue was estimated at $874 million in January, up 13% year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Shrimp remained the country’s top seafood export, generating $331 million, an increase of 6.4% from a year earlier and accounting for nearly 38% of total export value.

Growth in the first month of the year was driven mainly by Asian markets, particularly China, Japan and ASEAN, as well as strong performance in key product groups such as pangasius, squid and octopus.

China continued to be Vietnam’s largest seafood market, with export turnover reaching nearly $250 million, up 28.7% compared to the same period last year.

Exports to other major markets also expanded. Shipments to Japan rose 21.3% year-on-year to almost $146 million, exports to ASEAN surged 32.2% to around $69 million, and those to the Republic of Korea increased 9.1% to more than $67 million.
