Several key sub-projects at Vinh International Airport expansion project in central Nghe An province are being accelerated, including runway rehabilitation, taxiway extension and preparations for a 600-metre runway extension.
The expansion project aims to raise the airport’s annual passenger capacity to 3 million by 2030.
On July 22, the provincial People’s Committee met with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to review the progress of the sub-projects at the airport.
At the meeting, the ACV said it was simultaneously implementing several sub-projects to upgrade and expand Vinh International Airport in line with the master plan approved by the Ministry of Construction.
The project to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing runway and taxiway has so far reached around 60% completion, funded by ACV.
According to ACV, detailed construction drawings and cost estimates for the remaining works have been completed. The corporation is currently carrying out appraisal and approval procedures and selecting contractors to continue the project.
Alongside the rehabilitation of the existing runway, ACV is also investing in a taxiway extension project, which is expected to be put into operation during the peak summer travel season of 2027. The project is aimed at increasing the airport’s operational capacity and reducing aircraft waiting times.
The Vinh International Airport is planned to reach an annual capacity of 3 million passengers by 2030 and 10 million passengers by 2050.
