Vinh International Airport in north-central Nghe An province is to be capable of welcoming 8 million passengers and handling 25,000 tons of cargo annually by 2030.
This is part of a proposal to upgrade the airport by 2030 and vision to 2050 submitted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) for approval.
The airport is to be capable of catering to 14 million passengers and handling 35,000 tons of cargo annually by 2050, with 40 aircraft aprons. There will be 25 aprons by 2030.
The CAAV said Vinh International Airport has seen rapid growth over recent times, but many facilities are now overloaded and passenger numbers and cargo volumes exceed initial forecasts. Upgrades are therefore necessary.
The Prime Minister’s Decision No. 236/QD-TTg, dated February 23, 2018, on a national plan to develop Vietnam’s air transport by 2020 and vision to 2030 states that “Vinh International Airport will accommodate 8 million passengers per year in the period to 2030.”
