Total electricity generation in August reached 25.6 billion kWh, a year-on-year increase of 7.2 per cent, according to Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
The figure brings total power generation in the first eight months of the year to 186.3 billion kWh, up 2.7 per cent compared to the same period last year.
Of the eight-month total, 88.08 billion kWh was generated from coal thermal power plants, accounting for 47.3 per cent, 48.45 billion kWh from hydro power plants, or 26 per cent, and 26.35 billion kWh from renewable energy, or 14.1 per cent.
EVN and relevant units began construction of 41 power projects in the period and put 54 into operation.
It has predicted that electricity consumption in September may reach an average 786.8 million kWh per day, with electricity supply ensured.
