Authorities in northern Lao Cai province have approved adjustments to the general construction plan for the Lao Cai Border Gate Economic Zone through 2045, with the goal of transforming it into a leading dynamic economic region.
The revised plan emphasizes developing the border-gate economy and expanding trade with China’s vast market, while positioning the zone as a hub for commerce, services, and tourism. It will also enhance regional connectivity, creating a dynamic trade and tourism corridor and serving as one of Vietnam’s key gateways for trade with China and ASEAN.
Spanning nearly 16,000 hectares, the zone will be restructured into three functional sub-zones linked to international border gates, forming a mutually supportive, multi-polar economic system:
Zone I – Lao Cai International Border Gate: To be developed as the core center for trade, tourism, services, and urban growth. The Lao Cai railway station will be upgraded into an international intermodal hub connecting with China.
Zone II – Ban Vuoc International Border Gate: Planned as the industrial, logistics, and warehousing hub of the economic zone. New industrial parks, including Coc My – Trinh Tuong, Ban Qua, and Bat Xat, will be established alongside high-end resorts and golf courses.
