The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has recently approved the detailed plan proposed by the Department of Construction for the implementation of Component Project 2 - Upgrading the North-South axis road (from Nguyen Van Linh Street to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway).
The projected North-South axis road is about 8 km long, with the road surface to be expanded to 60 m. About 6.6 km of the total length of the route will be used to build a viaduct with a scale of 4 lanes, designed speed of 80 km/h. Below, the two routes will be parallel with 3 lanes on each side, allowing a maximum speed of 60 km/h.
According to the plan, the project will be invested in the form of public-private partnership (PPP) through a BOT contract.
The preliminary total investment for the project is approximately over VND9.8 trillion ($372 million).
The City People's Committee has tasked relevant departments, localities, and units to concentrate resources and coordinate closely to ensure the project's progress and quality as planned.
By the fourth quarter of 2025, the City will complete the preparation, appraisal, and approval of the feasibility study report. The bidding phase to select investors and sign the project contract is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
Immediately afterward, the preparation, appraisal, and approval of the technical design will be carried out, expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2026. The project will officially commence in the fourth quarter of 2026.
If the progress is maintained, by the fourth quarter of 2028, the project will be completed and put into operation, forming a seamless traffic axis connecting the southern area of Ho Chi Minh City with key expressways.
The project is expected to help reduce pressure on existing roads, while also creating a driving force to promote socio-economic development in the area and strengthen regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces as well as the southern key economic region.
