The northern port city of Hai Phong plans to become a leading and modern sea-based economic center in Southeast Asia by 2030, under the city’s master plan for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.
The city held a ceremony on January 15 to announce its master plan, which has been approved by the Prime Minister.
Focus will be on developing seaport services, logistics, and sea tourism.
The city will also strive to develop into a modern, smart, and sustainable city featuring comprehensive transport infrastructure with domestic and international links.
Priority will be given to developing Hai Phong Port, the railway line connecting Hai Phong and the capital Hanoi, a coastal railway connecting Nam Dinh - Thai Binh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh, the Ninh Binh - Hai Phong Expressway, and inland water routes, and upgrading Cat Bi International Airport.
Hai Phong will also study the construction of an international airport in Tien Lang district.
The city has also set a target of contributing 6.8 per cent to the country’s GDP by 2030 and posting average annual GRDP growth of 13.5 per cent in the 2021-2030 period.
By 2050, Hai Phong is expected to become a major port city in the region and the world.
It will focus on developing the green economy, the circular economy, digital transformation, and renewable energy.
