Tùng Dương -

Capital issues action plan to implement national energy efficiency program.

Hanoi is attempting to reduce energy use by 1.6-1.8 per cent compared to projected consumption demand by 2025 as part of an action plan to implement the national energy efficiency program.

The plan was issued by Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen on November 18.

In order to boost energy efficiency, Hanoi is looking to cut consumption by industries, in particular reducing energy use in textile and garment manufacturing by at least 1.5 per cent, in the production of alcohol and other beverages by 1.6-2.4 per cent, in the paper industry by 4-5 per cent, in the chemical industry by at least 2 per cent, and in plastics production by 6-8 per cent.

The capital also targets increasing the installation of LED (light-emitting diode) lighting along its streets to 100 per cent.

Agencies, buildings, offices, schools, and hospitals are required to cut energy consumption by at least 5 per cent annually.

Hanoi aims to have 70 construction projects and establishments recognized as using energy and “green” energy efficiently and effectively by 2025, with at least four to six of these being certified as green buildings using energy efficiently and effectively at the national level.

It will also promote the implementation of measures to use energy efficiently and use green energy and clean energy in transport activities.

In order to fulfill the targets, the capital will carry out 22 tasks and projects, focusing on technical support for production, manufacturing, renovation, the transformation of equipment and machinery, production lines, construction works, public lighting, and transportation infrastructure, as well as energy saving in households.
