HCMC-Moc Bai Expressway construction set to begin on National Day

The project, approved by the Prime Minister on August 2, 2024, has a total investment of nearly $750 million.

Construction on the Ho Chi Minh City–Moc Bai Expressway, spanning 51 km, is set to commence on September 2, in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day (September 2, 1945–September 2, 2025), according to a report from the lVietnam News Agency.

The first package to be implemented involves bomb and mine clearance and the relocation of technical infrastructure, expected to start on August 19.

This nationally significant project will connect with Ho Chi Minh City’s Ring Road 3 and run to its endpoint at National Highway 22 in neighboring Tay Ninh province.

Once complete, the expressway will synchronize with high-capacity, high-speed ring roads, significantly improving the Ho Chi Minh City–Tay Ninh transport corridor.

The route is also expected to catalyze the development of the Moc Bai–Ho Chi Minh City–Cai Mep–Thi Vai industrial and urban corridor, which connects to the Trans-Asian economic highway.

Phase 1 of the expressway will be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) using a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract.

The project, approved by the Prime Minister on August 2, 2024, has a total investment of VND19.617 trillion (nearly $750 million).

The route stretches 24.7km through Ho Chi Minh City and 26.3 km through Tay Ninh province. The initial construction phase will feature four standard lanes and two continuous emergency stopping lanes.
