As global supply chains undergo restructuring, Vietnam is positioning its domestic enterprises at the center of a strategic transformation. The country is presented with a significant opportunity to accelerate localization and strengthen its manufacturing self-reliance. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the first quarter of 2026 recorded a 9 per cent increase in the Industrial Production Index (IPI), with manufacturing and processing continuing to drive growth at 9.7 per cent. However, achieving the 40-45 per cent localization target will require businesses to accelerate technological investment and upgrade production capabilities.
At its Q1 2026 regular press conference, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) reaffirmed its commitment to restructuring industrial and supply chains to bolster domestic manufacturing capacity. A key element of this strategy is the gradual increase of localization rates in priority industries, alongside efforts to upgrade technologies and accelerate research and development for strategic products integrated with emerging technologies. While the direction is clear, translating these policy goals into practice remains a challenge. Many enterprises continue to face difficulties in accessing and implementing technologies suited to real production needs, even as supply chain requirements become more demanding. This gap has driven interest in models that create more direct connections between technology providers and manufacturers.
From exhibition platform to applied technology interface
Within this context, MTA Vietnam is positioned as a “technology touchpoint,” moving beyond the format of a conventional exhibition to focus on live demonstrations of manufacturing solutions. The approach is intended to help enterprises bridge the gap between strategic intent and practical application, enabling them to assess how technologies can be deployed in real production environments.
MTA Vietnam 2026 - the 22nd International Precision Engineering and Manufacturing Exhibition & Conference - is scheduled to take place from July 1 to 4, 2026, at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC) in Ho Chi Minh City. This year’s edition will span 13,200 sq m and feature more than 450 exhibiting brands from 21 countries and territories, including Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan (China), Thailand, and the United States.
A key highlight is the Supporting Industry Show 2026, organized in collaboration with JETRO Ho Chi Minh City, the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), and the Center for Supporting Industries Development (CSID). With participation from 44 enterprises from Japan and Vietnam, the program is designed to provide a platform for domestic suppliers to engage with international partners, align with global standards, and explore opportunities to integrate into global value chains.
In addition, a dedicated “Ho Chi Minh City Pavilion” for the supporting industries sector was organized by the Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City (ITPC), in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Supporting Industries Association (HASI). In this exhibition area, businesses were able to showcase their manufacturing capabilities, seek potential partners, and gradually increase localization rates.
Across the exhibition, the participation of companies such as Salvagnini Italia S.p.A, Makino Asia Pte. Ltd., Hwacheon Machine Tool Vietnam Co., Ltd., Ace Micromatic International Pvt. Ltd., Yamazen Vietnam Co., Ltd., Yamazaki Mazak Singapore Pte. Ltd., MST Corporation Co., Ltd., Sodick Vietnam Co., Ltd., Van Su Loi Trading - Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Thinh Qua Trading and Service One Member Co., Ltd., Kiheung Machinery Co., Ltd., and Renishaw (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. reflects the event’s role as a convergence point for manufacturing technology providers. Their presence contributes to an exhibition environment where precision machining equipment, 5-axis CNC systems, automation technologies, and advanced manufacturing solutions are demonstrated in operation, rather than presented as static displays.
Industry dialogue and supporting activities
Alongside the exhibition, a range of activities is set to explore different aspects of the industry’s development.
The “Speed Matching” program introduces short, structured meetings of 10-15 minutes, allowing companies to present their capabilities and needs while enabling potential partners to quickly assess compatibility. The format is designed to facilitate more efficient networking and support follow-up discussions after the event.
The Mechanical Engineering in the Intelligent Age Summit, introduced this year, focuses on the evolving role of engineers in a context shaped by digital technologies and smart manufacturing systems. The program seeks to connect perspectives across different stages of the industry’s development, from traditional engineering practices to emerging, technology-driven approaches.
The Sourcing Fair for Supporting Industries 2026 (SFS 2026), hosted by the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade in collaboration with HEPZA, SHTP, and CSID, continues to serve as a platform linking foreign-invested enterprises with domestic suppliers. By facilitating direct engagement with international demand, the event aims to support improvements in technology adoption, product quality, and management practices among Vietnamese firms.
In parallel, the industry insight and technical seminar series will bring together organizations such as the Vietnam Robotics Association (VRA), the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Supporting Industries (HASI), the Ho Chi Minh City Mechanical Association (HAME), VINATEST, and the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Engineering, alongside international partners including Italian Manufacturing Technologies Vietnam. Over four days, sessions will address topics ranging from the development of a domestic robotics ecosystem and metrology in research and development to European manufacturing technologies and sustainability trends in aerospace.
The MTA Automation Competition, now in its fourth edition, continues to highlight the role of young engineers by providing a platform where academic ideas are translated into practical manufacturing solutions, while also offering businesses early access to emerging talent.
MTA Vietnam 2026 is positioned as a platform where manufacturing technologies are not only showcased but tested and applied, reflecting broader efforts to strengthen Vietnam’s industrial capabilities and advance localization in key sectors.
