NA Chairman: Vietnam welcomes Japanese investment in various fields

Huyền Vy -

Focus is on high technology, renewable energy, and digital transformation, Chairman tells visiting President of the House of Councilors of Japan.

Vietnam encourages Japanese businesses to expand their operations in Vietnam in fields such as high technology, new energy, renewable energy, energy conversion, innovation, digital transformation, green transformation, and core technology, according to National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

He made the comments during talks with President of the House of Councilors of Japan, Otsuji Hidehisa, in Hanoi on September 5.

The Chairman also proposed that Vietnam and Japan enhance strategic links between the two economies, as much potential remains to boost trade and investment cooperation.

He suggested boosting cooperation between localities in the two countries and asked Japanese companies to invest and transfer advanced technology in areas such as infrastructure, manufacturing, high-quality agriculture, and climate change adaptation.

The two countries should work closely to maintain and strengthen existing supply chains while creating new chains where Vietnam has demand and Japan has strengths, given that global investment flows are undergoing a strong degree of restructuring, he added.

Mr. Hue also proposed the two countries actively implement the mid and long-term vision for agricultural cooperation.

Chairman Hue and President Hidehisa agreed that the two legislative bodies need to soon establish a cooperative mechanism with the signing of a cooperation agreement, which will serve as a legal foundation for them to strengthen cooperation in various areas, matching the “extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia” between Vietnam and Japan.
