Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.2% in October compared to the previous month, 2.82% from December 2024, and 3.25% year-on-year, according to the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The increase was mainly attributed to higher food prices in provinces and cities affected by heavy rains and flooding after the recent storms, along with continued tuition hikes at non-public educational institutions.
Prices climbed in 10 out of 11 major goods and service categories, with transport listed as the only group to record a decline. The food and catering services category rose 0.59% month-on-month, contributing 0.20 percentage points to overall CPI growth, while the education group increased by 0.51%.
Overall, CPI grew 3.27% on average in the first ten months of 2025.
Core inflation increased by 0.35% in October and 3.3% year-on-year. On average, core inflation rose 3.2% during the January–October period, slightly below headline CPI, as key items such as food, electricity, healthcare, and education—whose prices rose—are excluded from the core index, the NSO noted.
