Passenger & freight transport up sharply in January

Vietnam’s transport sector has seen positive development early in the year, with passenger and freight transport both rising sharply in January, according to the Ministry of Transport.

Passenger transport stood at 341.7 million people, a year-on-year increase of 34.7 per cent.

Nearly 203 million tons of goods were also transported, up 16.2 per cent year-on-year.

The rail sector posted the highest growth, of nearly 274 per cent year-on-year, followed by aviation with 140 per cent and maritime transport with 58 per cent.

The Ministry of Transport said the high growth is due to rising demand for travel during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
