PM calls for electricity savings to ensure energy security

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that the entire country save and use electricity effectively and economically to help ensure energy security.

Under a Prime Ministerial Directive on increasing electricity savings during the 2023-2025 period and subsequent years, the government leader called for savings of a minimum of 2 per cent each year and for losses in the power sector to be cut to below 6 per cent by 2025.

By 2030, half of all office buildings and half of residential buildings are to be equipped with rooftop solar power systems for self-consumption, without this electricity being sold to the national power grid.

By the end of 2025, all street lighting will use LED lights.

To fulfill these targets, Prime Minister Chinh instructed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to launch programs to promote rooftop solar power in businesses and households.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is tasked with optimizing the operations of power plants and distribution grids to efficiently utilize primary energy sources and reduce electricity losses.
