The Ministry of Construction has asked localities to instruct investors in commercial housing projects to quickly finish construction of social housing on 20 per cent of the land fund of their projects, as regulated.
Those investors found to not be investing in social housing as scheduled will see 20 per cent of their land allocated to other investors for that purpose.
The Prime Minister earlier issued a Decision approving the master plan on building at least 1 million social housing units for low-income earners and workers at industrial parks during the 2021-2030 period. Some 428,000 houses are expected to be built during the 2021-2025 period and the remainder will be completed during 2025-2030.
Localities reported that, as of May 18, they had completed 41 social housing projects with 19,516 units. Another 294 projects are on the way with 288,499 units, according to the ministry.
