Savills HCMC has said that brands from Japan and South Korea occupy nearly half of all retail space in Ho Chi Minh City. CBRE, meanwhile, has said that foreign players continued to expand in the third quarter of the year, with the appearance of many international brands in the fashion, sports, and F&B sectors.
Mr. Shimizu Akira, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Vietnam, has said that in addition to infrastructure, JICA’s priorities in cooperation with Vietnam are human resources development, healthcare, and carbon neutrality. ODA is expected to continue to play an important role in the development of infrastructure, he said, which is a driving force of Vietnam’s growth.
Vietnam Social Insurance held a conference on October 11 with Japanese FDI enterprises on the implementation of social insurance and health insurance policies. Data from the conference shows that there are currently more than 2,100 Japanese FDI enterprises in Vietnam with nearly 525,000 employees participating in social insurance. Social insurance revenue in this business sector accounts for 12.9 per cent of the total revenue of FDI enterprises in Vietnam.
After its first export batch to Japan in June, the Tan Long Group is preparing for its next batch of A An brand ST25 rice to go to the country in early 2023. A An ST24 rice has also been exported to Sweden, in early 2022. The brand is increasingly entering high-end international markets.
Figures from the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs show that the total number of Vietnamese workers going to work overseas was more than 103,000 in the first nine months of 2022, or 114.47 per cent of the annual plan, of which the number in September increased more than ten-fold over September last year. Japan continues to be the leading destination for Vietnamese workers, with 52,000, or nearly half.
State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc held talks with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio on September 26 in Tokyo, as part of his visit to the country to attend the State funeral of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in post-Covid-19 economic recovery, boost links between the two countries, consider promoting strategic cooperation in priority areas such as providing new generation official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, and developing high-quality human resources.
Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung met with Mr. Gen Nakatani, Assistant to the Prime Minister of Japan, on September 20 regarding issues of mutual concern between Vietnam and Japan, including the technical trainee program. Minister Dung proposed that Japan exempt residence taxes and income taxes for Vietnamese workers and interns. Of the nearly 500,000 Vietnamese now living and working in Japan, 370,000 are interns.
