A clean atmosphere not only protects public health but also serves as a measure of a modern nation's civilization, an 'attractive destination' for high-tech investors, and a 'green visa' for international tourists," according to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, Mr. Le Cong Thanh.
Addresing the "Clean Air for a Blue Sky" event held on November 1, Mr. Thanh stressed that the ministry has collaborated with other ministries, sectors, and localities to enhance air quality management nationwide, focusing on Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Efforts include increasing monitoring activities, warnings, sharing, and publicizing information to the community, and enhancing measures to control pollution sources. Proposals include promoting green transportation, clean industry, smart infrastructure management, and reducing pollution.
The ministry has recently submitted to the Prime Minister the "National Action Plan on Pollution Remediation and Air Quality Management for 2026-2030, with a vision to 2045", and advised the Prime Minister to establish a national steering committee to address air pollution.
In recent years, rapid urbanization, increased traffic, industrial development, and climate change have pressured air quality in major cities, including Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Alarming figures on fine dust, industrial smoke, and traffic emissions are not just scientific data but urgent reminders of the responsibility to act decisively today.
To reduce air pollution and maintain clean, fresh air, the ministry believes that relevant ministries, sectors, political and social organizations, international organizations, scientists, businesses, and citizens must work together to minimize pollution sources, and strongly promote green transportation, and transition to clean energy.
