Authorities of Mekong Delta localities and Ho Chi Minh City, together with investors, have agreed on a plan to develop the western coastal expressway linking Ho Chi Minh City with Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Soc Trang provinces in the Mekong Delta, under a public–private partnership (PPP) model.

The CT.33 expressway is estimated to require more than VND69 trillion ($2.7 billion) in total investment. Phase 1 is expected to cost over VND29.2 trillion and be completed before 2030, while Phase 2, estimated at more than VND39.8 trillion (excluding interest), will also be implemented before 2030 if funding is secured.

The expressway is planned to feature four lanes, spanning approximately 150–154 km. Phase 1 would include the construction of 73 km of new expressway and the upgrading of 13 km of existing national highways, while Phase 2 would add a further 78 km.

Once completed, the coastal expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and logistics costs, while enhancing connectivity between Mekong Delta localities and Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest economic hub.
