Construction of Quang Tri seaport expected to resume in September

Xuân Thái -

My Thuy Seaport in central province has investment of an estimated $596 million.

The Quang Tri Provincial People’s Committee has asked the investor of the My Thuy Seaport project to resume its construction in September.

The project in the central province was approved by the Prime Minister in January 2019, with construction beginning on February 27 2020. It was then delayed.

Total investment stands at over VND14.2 trillion ($596 million).

The 685-ha port is designed to have ten wharves capable of berthing vessels of up to 100,000 tons.

Construction will be divided into three stages. The first stage, scheduled for 2018-2025, will build four wharves at an estimated cost of VND5 trillion ($210 million). Another three wharves will be built in the 2026-2031 period with investment of VND5 trillion ($210 million), while the remainder will be built in 2032-2036 at a total cost of over VND4.3 trillion ($180 million).

The port will mainly serve the province’s southeast economic zones as well as cargo in transit from Laos and the northeast region of Thailand along the East-West Economic Corridor.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last month asked Quang Tri province to take measures to tackle the difficulties and obstacles relating to site clearance to accelerate project implementation.
