Nghe An province in north central Vietnam has announced a master plan for the high-tech forestry zone in the North Central region, with a vision to 2045.
Earlier, on April 10, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a Prime Ministerial decision approving the master plan, which covers an area of 618 ha across the province's communes of Phuc Loc, Dong Loc, Van Kieu, and Bach Ha.
The plan is designed to promote the development of forestry in a modern direction, applying advanced technologies across all stages—from seedling production, planting, forest management, harvesting, processing, to product distribution. The goal is not only to enhance the economic value of forests but also to ensure a balance between economic, social, and environmental development.
Notably, the establishment of the high-tech forestry zone will contribute to Vietnam’s commitment at COP26 to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, while also creating jobs, improving workforce quality, and supporting the transition of economic and labor structures toward industrialization and modernization.
According to the plan, the high-tech forestry zone in the North Central region will consist of three main subzones.
Subzone 1 is a high-tech forestry seedling production center covering 48 ha. It will produce seedlings using modern processes, conserve rare forest plant genetic resources, and serve as a center for training and technology transfer to regional units.
Subzone 2 spans 530 ha, focusing on high-tech, specialized, and closed-loop production and processing of wood and non-timber forest products. This area is considered key to forming value chains, supplying supporting products for the wood industry, and training high-quality workforce.
Subzone 3 covers 40 ha, that will serve as a trading floor and exhibition space for wood and non-timber forest products. It will be a venue for product promotion, supply-demand connection, and provision of machinery and materials for the forestry sector.
