Anh Tú -

Mekong Delta’s deep-water seaport has been designed to berth vessels of up to 160,000 DWT.

Authorities in the Mekong Delta’s Soc Trang province have approved a mid-term report on the feasibility study for the Tran De Deep-water Seaport project.

The final-term report is being completed and will soon be submitted to the Prime Minister for approval.

Under the province’s plan, Tran De Seaport will cover 1,400 ha and be able to berth vessels of up to 160,000 DWT and handle 80-100 million tons of cargo a year by 2030.

The project needs estimated investment capital of VND50 trillion ($2.04 billion) in the initial phase.

Soc Trang province is now seeking investors.

The port has been added by the Prime Minister to the master plan for the development of Vietnam’s seaports from 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050.

The government issued Resolution No. 78 in 2022 on an action plan for the implementation of Politburo Resolution No. 13 on socio-economic development orientations and ensuring national security and defense in the Mekong Delta region by 2030 with a vision to 2045, which set out the development of Tran De into a special seaport and gateway of the region.
