Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has urged Dong Nai province to become a leading economic development locality, aiming for a civilized, modern province with high income among the top in the country.

During a working session with local authorities on September 24, he emphasized the need for the southern province to promote the spirit of "three pioneers" in implementing socio-economic development tasks, strongly mobilizing all resources for development, particularly through public-private partnerships.

The Prime Minister suggested focusing on developing synchronized, modern, and intelligent infrastructure, especially in transportation, digital infrastructure, healthcare, education, and climate change adaptation.

He also called for advancements in science and technology, innovation, and the application of Fourth Industrial Revolution achievements. Training high-quality human resources, promoting administrative reform, improving the investment and business environment, and developing enterprises were other key priorities, according to the Prime Minister.

Ensuring social welfare, environmental protection, green, rapid, and sustainable development without sacrificing progress, fairness, or social welfare was another crucial aspect, the Government leader requested.

He added that  a focus should be placed on revitalizing traditional growth drivers (investment, export, consumption) and promoting new ones like the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, sharing economy, knowledge economy, and night-time economy.

Developing key industries, new technologies, high technologies, research and development centers, science parks, vocational training and education centers, innovation centers, and startup incubators was also essential, he said, adding that industrial zones were to be transformed towards green development, focusing on high-tech industries and participating in regional and global value chains.

Strengthening regional, national, and international linkages was another priority, according to the Prime Minister. He highlighted the province's role as a trade hub, along with effective exploitation of Long Thanh International Airport, Bien Hoa dual-use airport, and expressway routes. Administrative reform, digital transformation, improving the investment and business environment, supporting startups, and fostering innovation were also crucial, he said.

The province was urged to emphasize the development of cultural and social fields, ensuring social welfare, continuously improving the material and spiritual life of the people, and achieving harmonious development between the economy, culture, society, and environment.

Priorities should be given to environmental protection, nature conservation, biodiversity preservation, disaster prevention, climate change adaptation, afforestation, and forest protection, especially in headwater forests, the PM said.

Dong Nai province's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in the first six months of 2024 increased by 6.8%, exceeding the national average. Export turnover reached $15.6 billion, import turnover reached $11.3 billion, and the trade surplus was $4.3 billion. State budget revenue was estimated at VND43.7 trillion (over $1.77 billion), up 11% compared to the same period last year. Domestic investment was a bright spot, with investment certificates, investment policies, and registered capital adjustments exceeding VND42.1 trillion ($1.71 billion), five times higher than the same period last year. The province attracted FDI projects worth $1.089 billion in the six - month period, up 34% year-on-year.
