The tourism industry is accelerating its efforts to attract international visitors following the recent decline of key markets.
Experts attribute this decline to a combination of factors, including seasonal patterns, weather conditions, and the unique characteristics of each market.
Vietnam welcomed over 1.5 million international visitors in September. Although this represents a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024, the monthly decline indicates that the tourism industry needs to accelerate during the peak season at the end of the year.
To address cyclical declines and maintain growth in international arrivals, experts suggest that Vietnam should focus on stimulating demand in long-stay markets such as Western Europe, North America, and Australia.
Vu Quoc Tri, Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Tourism Association, noted that Vietnam welcomed approximately 15.4 million international visitors in the first nine months of the year. This figure is still far from the target of around 25 million visitors for the year. With only two months left, Vietnam's tourism sector must accelerate to meet this goal, especially as many localities are suffering heavy damage from storms and natural disasters.
At a regular press conference of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Pham Van Thuy, Deputy Director of the National Tourism Administration of Vietnam, emphasized the need to promote and advertise tourism both domestically and internationally.
Localities are also making efforts to implement solutions to attract visitors at the end of the year. Ho Chi Minh City is promoting the development of waterway tourism, northern Quang Ninh province is organizing festivals and launching tourism stimulus packages for the year-end period, and central Da Nang city has opened a direct flight route from Singapore to attract international tourists.
In Hanoi, many promotional events will take place from now until the end of the year, such as the Autumn Fair (from October 26 to November 4) and the Thang Long - Hanoi Festival (from November 1 to 16).
