During a working visit to north-central Nghe An province on July 23, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commented that State-owned enterprises and private enterprises have contributed equally to GDP, but the latter attracts better workers and accounts for more than 80 per cent of jobs. It is necessary to continue to develop the private economy as an important driving force of the national economy.

The Vietnam-Korea Cooperation Forum (VIKO30), held on July 22 and 23 in Ho Chi Minh City and on July 23 and 24 in Hanoi, is an opportunity to connect the startup and business communities of the two countries and promote cooperation in science and technology, investment, trade, and tourism. Vietnam is currently South Korea’s fourth-largest trading partner, while South Korea is Vietnam’s third-largest trading partner.

On July 22, when receiving Mr. Maeda Tadashi, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked for the bank’s support in terms of capital, technology, human resources, and governance for Vietnam to develop its energy conversion industry. Mr. Tadashi affirmed that Vietnam is one of two key partners of Japan in ASEAN in terms of implementing climate change response strategies.

In its latest report, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) lowered its Asia growth forecast to 4.6 per cent but kept its forecast for Vietnam’s economic growth at 6.5 per cent in 2022 and 6.7 per cent in 2023. Its forecast for Vietnam’s inflation rate is also unchanged from April, at 3.8 per cent in 2022 and 4 per cent in 2023.

At a meeting between Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien and British Ambassador to Vietnam, H.E. Gareth Ward, on July 21, the two sides discussed solutions to promote bilateral agricultural trade and other issues in preparation for the upcoming Vietnam - UK agricultural cooperation conference.

On July 21, at a national conference to study the resolution adopted at the 5th plenum of the 13th Party Central Committee, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that land policies and guidelines need to follow the actual circumstances and be improved. He added that it is necessary to focus on amending the 2013 Land Law for submission to the National Assembly at its next meeting, in October.
