At the 4th Vietnam Economic Forum, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Thanh Phong proposed a range of solutions to improve the independence and self-reliance of Vietnam’s economy as well as solutions for the country to take advantage of opportunities, overcome challenges, and develop its economy sustainably.

At the regular government meeting for May on June 4, chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, it was noted that Vietnam’s socio-economic situation has posted many positive results, with economic activities recovering strongly and most fields increasing compared to April and also May last year. Vietnam is also high in many international rankings.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended a dialogue with farmers in late May. Given the many difficulties and problems now facing farmers, he asked that ministries and agencies focus on perfecting institutions, policies, and administrative reform in agriculture and rural areas, improve the efficiency of land management and use, create favorable conditions for land accumulation, increase State investment in agriculture and rural areas, and provide preferential credit.

At the regular government meeting for May on June 4, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for the accelerated disbursement of public investment capital, ODA capital, and foreign concessional loans, especially for key national projects, faster economic restructuring, growth model transformation, and development of the digital government, digital economy, and digital society, stronger promotion of green transformation and equitization, and a continued focus on handling longstanding issues and projects.

A project on forest protection and livelihood creation in the central highlands’ Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces will be implemented from 2022 to 2026, with the goal of, by 2026, 25,000 hectares of natural forest being protected, reducing emissions equivalent to 3 million tons of CO2 and improving the livelihoods of 35 per cent of the population of the two provinces. The total budget of the project is €5 million ($5.36 million), funded by the EU.

Times Higher Education (THE Asia) magazine has announced the Asian University Rankings in 2022, which includes five Vietnamese universities - Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Hanoi University of Science and Technology; Ton Duc Thang University; and Duy Tan University.
