According to the “Vietnam Energy Outlook Report” from the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) and the Electricity and Renewable Energy Administration of Vietnam at the Ministry of Industry and Trade and released on June 2, Vietnam holds substantial potential in green transformation but action is needed early so that emissions peak no later than 2035, to avoid excessive costs. The report also suggested that Vietnam needs to act soon to convert fuel and to electrify its transportation sector. This will have dual benefits, including reduced air pollution and less dependence on imports. It also said Vietnam is an important partner in Denmark’s transition to a green economy.

Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung told the third session of the 15th National Assembly on June 2 that there are many reasons for delays in the disbursement of public investment capital. Problems cannot only be resolved by the Law on Public Investment, he said, as amendments are needed to other related laws and solutions must be for the long term, continuing to improve institutions and changing the approach, management, and use of capital.

New policies taking effect from June include regulations on the establishment and transformation of enterprises in which 100 per cent of charter capital is held by the State, regulations on linking vocational training with foreign countries, and regulations on postal rates.

Hanoi Capital Planning for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050 will be completed in the second quarter of 2023 and submitted to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval in the following quarter. The planning is being carried out under an integrated, multi-sectoral approach, ensuring consistency and synchronicity in development orientation and links between sectors and fields.

According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission, technological autonomy and building a domestic market for sustainable development are two key contents of the 4th Vietnam Economic Forum, to be organized by the Commission on June 5 in Ho Chi Minh City. The forum will include three seminars, on developing a stable labor supply chain post Covid-19; developing the capital market and the real estate market; and technological innovation, digital transformation, and supply chain diversification.

At the National Assembly (NA)’s third session, detailing the legislature’s supervision over the implementation of policies and laws on planning activities since the Law on Planning took effect, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized that Vietnam needs to implement its commitments at COP26 and that nuclear power development is an inexorable trend that it should pursue, as other countries in the world have done.
