Vietnam’s industrial production continued its positive trend in the third quarter of 2023, with the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) estimated to have increased 4.57 per cent year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The IIP rose 1.65 per cent year-on-year in the first nine months, of which the manufacturing and processing sector was up 1.98 per cent, electricity production and distribution 2.9 per cent, and water supply and wastewater treatment 4.69 per cent. The mining sector, meanwhile, fell 3.01 per cent.

Certain key industrial sectors reported a nine-month IIP higher than in the same period last year, including tobacco, up 9.6 per cent, plastics and rubber products 8.7 per cent, prefabricated metal products (except for machinery and equipment) 7.4 per cent, chemicals and chemical products 6.2 per cent, and food processing 5.8 per cent.

According to a GSO report, 49 cities and provinces posted IIP growth in the first eight months while 14 others saw a decline.
