An estimated VND81.8 trillion ($3.11 billion) will be needed to develop the seaport system of Ba Ria–Vung Tau province (prior to its merger with Ho Chi Minh City) by 2030, according to a detailed plan for the province’s port land and water areas for the 2021–2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The plan has been approved by the Ministry of Construction.
It targets a cargo throughput of 215 million to 236.9 million tons per year by 2030, including container cargo of 16.25 million to 18.25 million TEUs. Passenger traffic is projected to reach 2.67 million to 2.89 million people annually.
By 2030, the province’s seaport system is expected to comprise 60 wharves with 117–123 berths, stretching a total length of 28,948–30,823 metres.
The total land demand for the period is estimated at 1,931 hectares, while the water surface area will cover about 68,923 hectares.
