The Ministry of Transport has backed a proposal from the Mekong Delta’s Soc Trang province to build Tran De Seaport and has instructed local authorities to look into capital sources to implement the project in line with regulations.
Provincial authorities proposed in May that the ministry consider and permit the implementation of the project under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
Tran De Seaport has been added to the national seaport network development master planning during 2021-2030 with a vision towards 2050, which was approved by the Prime Minister in September 2021.
Under the plan, Tran De Seaport, as a gateway to the Mekong Delta, will berth vessels of up to 160,000 deadweight tons (DWT) and handle 30-35 million tons of cargo a year by 2030. By 2050, it will berth vessels of up to 200,000 DWT and handle 80-100 million tons of cargo.
