Vietnam and Singapore have agreed to promote cooperation in electronic and semiconductor industries, smart energy, LNG, as well as share experiences in e-commerce, small and medium-sized enterprise development, digital economy, and innovation.

This content was discussed during talks on October 10 between Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and Singapore's Minister-in-charge of Energy and Science & Technology Tan See Leng.

In the Revised National Power Development Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 (Revised Power Master Plan VIII), Vietnam aims to export 5-10 GW of electricity to Singapore, Malaysia, and other partners by 2035, based on ensuring economic efficiency and energy security.

Based on this, the two ministers had in-depth discussions on the project of exporting renewable energy from Vietnam to Singapore, including both direct transmission (Vietnam – Singapore) and indirect connection via a third country. The two sides agreed to coordinate closely at the technical level to study the legal, financial, and technical mechanisms for the project, and also to consider establishing specific Vietnam – Malaysia – Singapore power connection agreements/arrangements in the near future.

In addition, Minister Dien also proposed that Singapore continue to expand imports of other Vietnamese agricultural products such as seafood, coffee, tea, fresh vegetables, and fruits; strengthen information exchange on standards, quality control, food safety, and professional delegations to support agricultural trade between the two countries.

The Vietnamese side requested Singapore to consider supporting the development of a Halal industrial park in Vietnam, as well as creating favorable conditions for goods, especially products achieving the Vietnam National Brand, to penetrate deeper into Singapore's distribution system and supply chain.

The two sides also agreed to promote cooperation in industry development research and policy planning, through cooperation between the Institute for Industrial Strategic and Policy Research (under Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade) and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (Singapore), focusing on areas such as renewable energy, green transition, supporting industries, and sustainable trade.
