Four wind power plant projects, including V1-2 Expansion, V1-3 Phase 2, V1-5, V1-6 Phase 2, and Dong Hai 3 (V3-3 position) in Truong Long Hoa ward of Vinh Long province in the Mekong Delta were officially kicked off on September 28, according to a report from the Vietnam News Agency.
The event was co-organized by the Provincial People's Committee, together with REE Corporation (Refrigeration Electrical Engineering Joint Stock Company) and Truong Thanh Vietnam Group Joint Stock Company.
Vinh Long possesses immense potential for developing coastal and offshore wind power, with a sea area of approximately 15,000 sq.km. The sea area between Duyen Hai to Ba Tri wards has been assessed by international consulting organizations as having an average wind speed of 7-8 m/s, suitable for large-capacity wind power turbines.
Currently, about 45 onshore, coastal, and offshore renewable energy projects, with a total capacity of approximately 3,855 MW, have been planned in the province which is actively promoting for investment.
The simultaneous groundbreaking of these four wind power plants demonstrates the province's determination to harness its coastal wind potential, while also concretizing the policy of developing renewable energy in accordance with the province's National Energy Development Strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2050.
Currently, the province has a total commercial operational power generation capacity of 5,414 MW, including 04 thermal power plants with a total capacity of 4,498 MW, 13 wind power plants with a total capacity of 572.1 MW, 02 concentrated solar power plants with a capacity of 189 MW, and rooftop solar power systems with a total capacity of 154.9 MW.
Annually, Vinh Long province contributes approximately 30 billion kWh to the national power grid.
