The capital city of Hanoi attracted about 2.1 million visitors during the four-day National Day holiday (August 30 – September 2), tripling last year’s figure, the Government News quoted figures from the municipal Department of Tourism as reporting.
Among them were more than 80,000 international tourists, a 35 per cent increase year-on-year. Tourism revenue was estimated at VND4.5 trillion (around $180 million), up 80 per cent compared with the same period in 2024.
The surge in demand pushed occupancy rates at 3- to 5-star hotels to over 83 per cent on average, 22.6 percentage points higher than last year, with many fully booked on September 1. Local authorities required accommodation and service providers to strictly observe regulations on safety, fire prevention, hygiene, and food standards.
This year, the capital marked the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day with a series of cultural, artistic, and tourism activities. Highlights included the "Red Ba Dinh" program, the double-decker "Hanoi Train" service, community events in Bat Trang pottery village and Duong Lam ancient village, as well as open-top bus tours.
The exhibition "80 Years of Independence – Freedom – Happiness" at the National Exhibition Centre in the city drew about 1.2 million visitors between August 28 and 31 alone.
Popular tourist sites also saw sharp rises in footfall: Thang Long Imperial Citadel and Hanoi Zoo welcomed 33,000 guests; Hoa Lo Prison relic site nearly 26,500; the Temple of Literature 18,000; and Ba Vi National Park over 3,100. Central museums offering free admission from September 1–3 also attracted large crowds.
From 9:00 pm to 9:15 pm on September 2, Hanoi capped the evening with high-altitude fireworks at five locations: Hoan Kiem and Van Quan lakes, Lac Long Quan Garden, My Dinh National Sports Complex, and Thong Nhat Park.
The Department of Tourism highlighted that local attractions had improved services, while ensuring security, traffic safety, environmental hygiene, and food safety. No major incidents were reported during the holiday period.
