Data from the General Department of Customs shows that, in the first half of June, 2022, trade turnover reached $31.64 billion, down 10 per cent compared to the second half of May but up 16.7 per cent year-on-year. Total trade turnover of FDI enterprises rose 16 per cent and the domestic sector 18.5 per cent. Trade was in deficit to the tune of $1.42 billion.

The Ministry of Public Security has proposed amending the Law on Citizen Identification to serve the settlement of administrative procedures, provide online public services, develop socio-economics, and serve digital citizenship. There will also be additional regulations on the issuance of identity certificates to stateless people who have lived stably and long-term in Vietnam.

Speaking at the Conference on the Promulgation of the Mekong Delta Regional Master Plan and Investment Promotion for the 2021-2030 Period, held in Can Tho city on June 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed efforts on a range of important matters for the region’s socio-economic development. He called for focus on enhancing transport and logistics infrastructure, clean energy infrastructure, renewable energy, digital transformation infrastructure, combating climate change, improving the business and investment environment to attract investors, and creating breakthroughs in administrative reform.

Deputy PM approves chemical industry development stategy

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has approved the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam’s Chemical Industry to 2030 and Vision to 2040. By 2030, growth in the chemical industry is to average 10-11 per cent a year and the proportion of the chemical industry in all of industry is to reach 4-5 per cent. The strategy prioritizes the development of key sub-sectors and at the same time forms large-scale chemical complexes in order to build a complete chemical industry to meet domestic and export demand.

Vietnam & Mozambique look to new stage of economic relationship

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) held a meeting on June 21 between the President of the National Assembly of Mozambique, Ms. Esperanca Bias, who is visiting Vietnam, and Vietnamese businesses. A representative from the Ministry of Planning and Investment said that Vietnam is ready to act as a transshipment hub for Mozambique’s goods to expand in Southeast Asia. Vietnam also hopes that Mozambique will be a bridge helping its goods penetrate into the southern African market. Vietnam is currently a priority in Mozambique’s Eastern foreign policy.
