Construction of the Vinh – Thanh Thuy Expressway, a key component of the planned 760-km Hanoi – Vientiane Expressway, is slated to begin in early 2026.
The project is also set to link with Vietnam's primary North-South Expressway to create a more integrated national road network.
The 60-km Vinh – Thanh Thuy Expressway, which runs through Nghe An province in central Vietnam, requires an estimated investment of nearly VND24 trillion ($905 million).
The expressway will start at the intersection with the Dien Chau – Bai Vot section of the North–South Expressway and end at the Thanh Thuy International Border Gate.
It is designed as a six-lane highway with a standard speed of 100 km/h, though in sections with difficult terrain the speed will be reduced to 60–80 km/h. The roadbed width will range from 29m to 32.25m, depending on the segment.
Land clearance is scheduled to begin in 2025, with construction starting in early 2026. The expressway is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2029.
