Vietnam and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Intellectual Property (IP) cooperation in Hanoi on September 25.

The MoU was inked by Mr. Daren Tang, WIPO Director General, and Mr. Luu Hoang Long, Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam, during the former's  official visit to the country.

The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation, covering areas from policy and legislative development to awareness-raising, workforce training, enterprise support, and capacity-building for Vietnam’s IP authority.(Key priorities include reviewing and implementing national IP legislation and strategies, expanding the use of international IP registration systems, and enhancing support for intermediaries, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and start-ups in managing, protecting, and commercializing IP assets.

The two sides also agreed to promote domestic IP creation and commercialization through stronger university–business collaboration, technology transfer, and research on IP’s role in socio-economic development. Other areas of focus include broadening IP training, developing professional skills, raising public awareness, and applying digital and artificial intelligence solutions in IP examination and dispute resolution, including mediation mechanisms.
